I know birds are supposed to be intelligent, but let me say this. I have not fed the birds since Christmas, the cold and snow having lifted since then. I figure it is better for them to source from the forest beyond.
However, with the snow and ice we are experiencing right now, they are hopping across the tiles along my patio door. The little chickadees actually pause to look in as if to say, help us out here.
How do they remember? Are they remembering? Do they have memory that I fed them at Christmas? Is there a bird sign hanging somewhere that says "Hop on in here - best sunflower seeds on the block?".
At any rate, it is mission successful in bird land. Snacks have been provided.
